課程概述 |
This two-credit class is basically the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, which is separated to two parts: the first part consists of fundamentals of geophysical fluid dynamics and ocean dynamics with rotation effects, and the second part includes ocean dynamics with stratification effects and combined rotation and stratification effects. In the Theoretical Physical Oceanography (2), the major topics are
(1) Stratification in the ocean
(2) Internal waves
(3) Turbulence in stratified fluids
(4) Layered models
(5) Stratified geostrophic dynamics
(6) Upwelling
(7) Quasi-geostrophic dynamics
(8) Baroclinic instability
(9) Fronts, jets, and vortices
The fundamental theory of these topics will be introduced in the class. |
